Paris, December 10, 2004
We wish to confirm that the ESWC 2005 Grand Final will be held as planned from 5 to 10 July, 2005, just as in previous years and as announced to several partners and media organisations worldwide.
We were very disappointed to hear CPLs announcement concerning the dates of its own forthcoming summer event: the most expensive e-sports event in the world for gamers.
This decision by Mr. Munoz sounds to us like an admission of weakness or at least as a deliberate attempt to divide layers, teams, sponsors and the media.
We wish to express our deepest regret to all involved for this situation, which appears to be yet another attempt to hijack the communities for personal interests. |

I don't remember ESWC announcing their dates. We just announced our dates yesterday and no one from the community brought up a scheduling conflict as everyone including the CPL just found out about the ESWC dates. If they did publish them earlier than I must have missed it but I do believe that the CPL published their dates first.
The CPL wanted to work with them into rescheduling their dates because we were under the impression that they were not obligated to host an event at that specific time. The CPL has already signed contracts not only for the Summer event in 2005, but for the Summer event in 2006. As you can see we plan things very far head of time long before we find out about what other organizations have planned for that same time period or long before other organizations even have plans for that same time period.
The CPL is not trying to bully ESWC or anyone else. We have always had nothing but respect for ESWC and have worked with them in the past on a few different projects. We honestly did not know about their dates. The dates we chose were the only ones available and the contract was signed before we knew anything about ESWC dates.
We are obligated towards these contracts so they can not be broken or changed. If it was as easy as changing dinner reservations, we would; but that's not how things work. If ESWC is also in a very tough position when it comes to rescheduling, then we appologize for what has happened because the last thing the CPL wants to do is divide the community.
Also, bringing up the past about when CPL Summer events usually take place is irrelevant for the 2005 year because in 2005 the CPL is doing something completely different than normal which of course is the 1 Million Dollar World Tour. So now we're trying to organize and plan out 10 events as opposed to the 2 events we do a year or the 1 event that ESWC does a year. Therefore venue availability plays a major role as we have so much to consider trying to do something that has never been done before in "Esports".
